ROUTES ACROSS THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO OVERLAND (WITHOUT FLYING):
NOTICE OF SAFETY: We accept no liability for harm or death occuring for you trying to follow or copy any of these routes independently. They are not designed for unescorted independent travel and there is a no chance of success without detainment or death.
Option 1: Kisangani – Kindu – Mbuji Mayi – Kamina – Lubumbashi (34 days)
Day 1 – 5: Kisangani to Punia, with a stop in Waine Rukula (net fishing), Mayala and Yumbi to visit the Teke Tribe and pygmees. Landcruiser.
Day 6 – 12: From here we’ll either dive into Lomami National Park or Maiko. This will depend on accessibility and local resources. Landcruiser
Day 13 – 15: On the road to Kindu with stops in local villages. Landcruiser
Day 16: Kindu. We’ll get a visit to the local university by the principal), visit the city center, the port, etc. Landcruiser.
Day 17 – 19: On the road to Ngulube with some waterfalls and rivers to visit. Landcruiser.
Day 20 – 23: Four days to Mbuji Mayi with visiting the Tetela area, passing Kabinda and other towns. Landcruiser
Day 24 – 25: Visit to Mbuji Mayi city center and diamond mines. Landcruiser
Day 26: Half day driving to Mwene Ditu by Landcruiser or motorbike. Visit to the train station.
Day 27: Train from Kamina to Lubumbashi
Day 28: Lubumbashi city visit.
Day 29 – 33: Buffer days in case we are late. If we are in time we visit Upemba NP and Kundelungu NP together with Likasi
Day 34: Departure
Option 2: Kisangani – Kindu – Mbuji Mayi – Kananga – Tshikapa – Kinshasa (47 days)
Day 1 – 5: Kisangani to Punia, with a stop in Waine Rukula (net fishing), Mayala and Yumbi to visit the Teke Tribe and pygmees. Landcruiser.

Day 30 – 33: Four days of exploring the ancient Kuba Kingdom and seeing where and how raffia is made. Landcruiser/motorbike
Day 34: One day drive to Tshikapa. Landcruiser
Day 35, 36: Visit the mines around Tshikapa, edible insect cultivation, Kasai river. Landcruiser
Day 37: One day drive to Kikwit. Landcruiser
Day 39: One day drive to Bombo Lumene Reserve. Landcruiser
Day 40: Bombo Lumene. Landcruiser
Day 41: Visit the old satellites and old Chinese Palace of Mobutu on the way to Kinshasa. Landcruiser
Day 42 – 46: Five buffer days in Kinshasa, city exploration and nearby sites such as Zongo, Kimpese, Kisantu.
Day 47: Departure

Option 3: Kisangani – Dikoma – Salonga – Lodja – Kananga – Mbuji Mayi – Lubumbashi
Day 1 – 7 Kisangani – Dikoma in one week: Topok tribes, pygmees. Landcruiser
Day 8 – 10: Three days in boat with village stops to Yolombo,
Day 11 – 15: Five days in Salonga National Park on foot
Day 16 – 18: Three days back by pirogue
Day 19 – 22: Dikoma – Lodja: four days by Landcruiser, visiting local villages.
Day 23 – 24: Two days by motorbike to the Sankuru River
Day 25: Rest day
Day 26 – 28: To Kananga by motorbike, 3 days
Day 29 – 30: Two days around Kananga (you can also take the plane out) Landcruiser
Day 31: One day towards Lac Mukamba Landcruiser/motorbike
Day 32: One day driving towards Mbuji Mayi by Landcruiser/motorbike
Day 33 – 34: Visit to Mbuji Mayi city center and diamond mines. Landcruiser
Day 35: Half day driving to Mwene Ditu by Landcruiser or motorbike. Visit to the train station.
