Congo Barge Building Modern Materials
Chinese plastic fiber sacks with fronds are used for most boats in the Congo built dockside in Kinshasa to Kisangani now. Mattresses are shipped over to sit and sleep on, and generators and solar from China or USA.
We can buy a full handmade barge for $30,000-50,000 including our fee and you choose the vessel. This doesn't include the engine and fuel. We don't accept liability or responsibility for the safety of any barge you choose. It is more good for hobbyists and customization, and we don't guarantee any ship. All ships are dangerous.
Most engines are Chinese long screw engines. Toilets are built to be in the back of the boat. Metal strips keeping hull intact everywhere - steel strips with what appears to be X hammered and holding the boards of the wood together. Life jackets and an extra life boat kayak is advised. If you buy your own boat you'll have the whole deck to yourself at least, always.
You'll need muscular polers, an engineer, and a captain. Basic staples and foodstuffs are in the front of the boat. Fiberglass bottoms crash and strand and sink routinely.
