Garamba and Murchison Falls

Our trip starts from Entebbe where we take a plane to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are two fixed days per week. After that, we cross the border and catch another plane that takes us to the beautifully located lodge in the park. We have a nice week in the park where we explore the park on foot, by jeep and also from the air (with a plane or if you pay extra by helicopter). The Garamba Park is a beautiful and little visited park and is one of the highlights in terms of nature in Congo. With Virunga Park, it is also the only park where there is a good lodge and tourist activities.

It would be a shame to return home just after Entebbe without visiting anything in Uganda. Murchison Falls National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Uganda and is easily accessible from Entebbe. We therefore suggest that you spend a few more days in this magnificent park.

Located in northwestern Uganda from the shores of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile to Karuma Falls. Together with the adjacent 748 square kilometer Bugungu Wildlife Reserve and the 720 square kilometer Karuma Wildlife Reserve, the park forms the Murchison Falls Conservation Area (MFCA). The park is home to Murchison Falls, where the waters of the Nile flow through a narrow gorge just 7 meters wide before plunging 43 meters.

The MFCA and adjacent Bugondo Forest Reserve has 76 species of mammals and the largest population of Nile Crocodiles in Uganda. There are 450 known species of birds in the park, including the rare shoebill stork, dwarf kingfisher, goliath heron, white hornbill and great blue turaco.

Since 2005, the conservation area has been considered a lion conservation unit. In 2010, it was estimated that there were only 250 giraffes in the park. A population of 37 Rothschild giraffes was transferred from the north side of the Nile to the south side in 2016 and 2017 when the population was around 1,500.

Please note that the schedule below may differ, but we do all activities as listed below. There is also a standard 1-hour airplane safari on the program, which gives you great pictures of the park. If you wish, you can upgrade it to a helicopter flight for around 3.000 USD extra. It is difficult to tell which day the flight is, it depends on the availability of the pilot.

Be sure you have been vaccinated against yellow fever and that you have your vaccination card with you, that you have also been vaccinated against COVID and that you have the necessary PCR test results with you if necessary if the airline asks you. We are not responsible for delayed or canceled flights. We try to follow the schedule as closely as possible, but keep in mind that this can always change and some flexibility is needed.

*** If you need a PCR test, be sure to schedule an extra day!
