Essential Bas-Congo: From Kinshasa to the coast, ten days

A trip to the Congo appeals to the imagination, but where to start? The country is gigantic, there is a lot to see, but what should you see? And is it safe to travel to Congo?

At Congo Travel and Tours, you have come to the right place. We are a professional travel agency from Kinshasa and have years of experience organizing trips throughout the Congo. One of the most popular tours is a tour in Bas-Congo, a province south of Kinshasa.

Our journey starts at the chaotic capital city of Kinshasa, where we marvel at the colorful crowds and madness, and takes us all the way to the Atlantic Ocean where the Mangrove Park awaits.

During our adventure, we will visit the Zongo waterfalls, but also the Kimpese waterfalls. Also on the menu: the botanical garden and the cathedral of Kisantu, which should not be missed. In Inga we will visit the huge power station dam and in Boma we will visit several historic buildings.

Our trips in Congo-Kinshasa are in a comfortable 4×4 or air-conditioned van and with a reliable driver who knows the area well. All this under the guidance of our professional guides. On the way we can enjoy the scenery and many interesting stops are made. For example, we can stop at the markets or have a drink somewhere on a terrace where we can observe daily life. Because this trip offers a variety of history, culture and nature, there is something for everyone.

It is important that you realize that traveling to Congo is a special experience that sometimes requires a little patience. You can have decades of experience with safaris and cultural tours in South Africa, Uganda, Ghana or Ethiopia, Congo is something else again. Heavy rain showers, road collapses, power outages, an overbooked hotel, a canceled flight, monstrous traffic jams, .. so many things that can influence the program. It is important to be prepared for this, to be flexible with changes and not to worry. Be sure to bring a powerbank, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses, cap, extra towel, bactigel, medicine, wet wipes and a flashlight with enough batteries to avoid a lot of frustration. Don’t forget a good dose of humor and patience!

However, budget hotels are all good, clean and safe.

Make sure you have been vaccinated against yellow fever and that you have your vaccination card with you, you are also vaccinated against COVID, and that you have your PCR test results if requested by the airline. If you want a single room, an additional supplement will apply. Please note that it is not allowed to share a room with a person of the same sex in Congo. We are of course very sorry and disagree with this, but have no influence on this. We are not responsible for the consequences if our customers do not comply.

Accommodation is in midrange hotels or in park lodges. If you want a more luxurious formula, ask us.
