Motorbike Crossing In Kipushi Desert With Sundowner

About an hour drive outside of Lubumbashi, we find the desert of Kipushi: Kinchangalyi. Kichangalayi is a site about 3 km wide and 8 km long and is not a natural desert, but came to existence because of environmental pollution due to cobalt mining. Due to its unique landscape it has now become somewhat of a local tourist attraction.

The site was polluted by the waste of Gécamines during their copper and cobalt production for which a lot of water is required with the addition of sulfuric acid. After usage the water is being dumped, creating pollution which ultimately led to this strange landscape. The plains are the perfect site for motorbiking or even quad biking. For this day tour we’ll leave in the afternoon to go motorbiking for an hour or two, followed by a sundowner and a snack while enjoying the sunset.
